I don't buy that because you have the Ford Falcon and Focus and several Holdens in your country alone..Of course,those would be considered more Aussie I would guess but they are like our cars.

The Ford Focus was designed by Ford Europe to compete with Europe's perennial best selling car, the VW Golf. I was surprised that they started selling it in the US a year or two later.
The only time I've seen a Falcon was on holiday in Australia.

Last year it came 4th behind the Toyota Corolla, VW Golf and the Ford F-series.
I would not call the Focus an american car since it was 100% designed in Europe developed from what used to be called the Escort. Up until now Ford USA and Ford Europe have been practically different companies who very little besides a name except the Ford Europe has been propping up Ford USA financially for lengthy stretches of time. Just like Opel was or still is propping up GM.
