hollow.
It's essentially saying, "We stole this land fair and square from the native peoples. The rest of you f* off."

True enough! And yet, certain other things strike me as "hollow" too. WHY, for instance, should we REQUIRE immigrant labor?
WHY, do we want or need other people to do our "dirty" or "indesirable" work, for less in the way of money - and far less in the way of thanks and prestige - than if we WERE TO DO the same jobs for ourselves?
*IF* we wanted to do those jobs. And therein lies the problem, IMO. Because, it seems to me that no nation should ever be ashamed to do ALL of their own work...
If a thing, ANY THING, is needed for survival then shouldn't ALL aspects of manufacture be seen as "worthy"?
If we weren't so *hollow* might we be willing to admit that no task is *dishonorable* - in and of itself?
Have WE come to think that certain tasks are beneath US, but not THEM?
These lowly "undignified" tasks are suitable only for poor "second-class" semi-citizens imported from places like Mexico?
Why not get back to our human roots once again? What happened to the the "Jeffersonian ideal"? We can and should embody certain aspects of the Jeffersonian ideal once again (minus the slave labor). If only we really wanted to.
Why not learn how to do ALL of our own work for once? And if we do our own work, let's do it right this time around.
And besides (sorry, Mexico), we really do need the jobs!

Personally, I have nothing against doing ANY type of work that supports and promotes healthy society. And as long as the employers, employees. and clients involved seem like REAL people, I usually won't mind working alongside of them.OTOH, I'd rather starve than work for, or with, a bunch of A-holes.
But fast food joints generally do not support and promote such things so I, in turn, do not much support and promote them. And if Mexican immigrants are the ones who our corporations DEPEND on to run and support such things then I'm fine with the idea of most of them returning to Mexico to face their own problems in their own country. Every fast-food joint in America could close down tomorrow and I could care less.
So, it's certainly not the physical WORK involved in running a restaurant that bothers me. We can, and should, do much better things with our time and money than continue to support these slimy fast food chains all across America.

True, it WAS hard work. But I had a little bit of energy left over last night - in part because I paid for a computer and keyboard that was assembled by others in an overseas sweatshop.
