Law enforcement officers are often "type A" personalities - aggressive alpha types. Even though they're trained to keep their cool and still maintain the upper hand, they're often like pitbull terriers or wolf/dog hybrids - you never know when they're gonna lose it. And the coffee and "energy drinks", etc. that many of these guys, er, and gals, consume doesn't help the situation - between the caffeine and the sugar, they're pumped up. Maybe it's time to establish a policy of the mandatory taking of a downer before going out to interact with the public.Edit: That is not to say that the shooting of Michael "the gentle giant convenience store robber" Brown wasn't justified, and ditto for the low-life n'er-do-well Trey Martin.

On the RIDE ALONG I did with the local PD, I saw NO SIGN of excess Sugar or Energy drinks. Guy I rode with had some interesting stories, one of which was WRESTLING with a suspect who apparently was going for his sidearm. The Officer? MMA training so that was a non-starter.
I couldn't take that as a daily routine. I doubt many HERE could, either. And with the jacked-up tension situation going on across the entire country, it's gonna get worse before better.
The cop appreciated stopping by MY house for some lunch and a few minutes out of the car.

Well PG, this proves Inmate51's theory. You saw no sugar and energy drinks and I will assume , if I may, that on your ride along with the police you didn't see him blow away some black dude in the back while he was running away or on the ground under control for no good reason. This is pure Spock like logic. I rest Inmate51's case. T
I could have gone ANY time of my choosing. I took a DAY ride where I could observe other than gang activity. We DID see some weird stuff. But we also did some good in that ONE guy had a car smashed in very late one night. We got there and saw the damage and started taking the report. The guy found the LICENSE PLATE and piece of front end IN THE STREET. Tracking down the car and owner, we found the kid a couple blocks away sleeping it off. We took him to the guy who's car he crashed and they worked it out. I hope. Leaving the scene of an accident was on the table but shelved pending resolution. Good, low profile job.
We saw some druggies needing help and also responded to a call resulting in a 5150, which here is a 72hour involuntary psychiatric hold.
Too much is never enough
Was there anyone forcing the police to drink coffee and energy drinks, which from my reading of what you posted is that they are at least potentially partly responsible for their actions? Maybe there should be more personal responsibility for these gobamint agents. Or? Or maybe we should just feed the police coffee and energy drinks and let them kill themselves, or in this case would you prefer they just kill unarmed black people when pumped up on coffee and energy drinks? Hah?
Yes by all means lets keep killing unarmed people and fully unload our weapon. Brown was thirty feet away when that chicken shit cop finished unloading his weapon. Its time for cops to have bullets that will only injure and stop people and not kill them. And please keep posting in detail so we have your racism and hate on the record. Look at yourself. Look what you said about Trayvon Martin. Who are you to judge? Did you know him? Dont tell me you are relting on the media? Both sides suck. Please keep holding all teenagers to high standards, they are so smart with a lot of life experience. I pity you.

Zimmerman, the one who shot Martin was told by the police dispatcher not to follow Martin and he did anyway. He had called the police many times in the past when he thought something was up. He wasn't even on duty. Zimmerman was found to have a blood level of Red Bull of 3.0. This explains it all. Welcome aboard Awd-d. Tweaker
For years now, people have been trying to make "safer bullets" that *stop* or maim, but do not *kill*...Bullets made of rubber, plastic, or other lightweight materials. Bullets filled with tiny shot pellets as a replacement for heavy slugs. Expanding bullets designed for limited penetration, etc...
The problem with all of these "safer bullet" designs is that none of them have been shown to reliably stop a truly determined person and/or a person who is high on drugs, filled with adrenaline, etc... The only truly reliable STOPPERS are bullets that hit hard enough and penetrate deeply enough to destroy a lot of tissue, cause massive bleeding, and disrupt the nervous system.
The responding officers first duty it to protect others and himself by stopping the suspected violent perpetrator in his/her tracks as efficiently as possible. The only proven way to do this is (in many situations) with sheer force. Unfortunately, this sometimes means that guns and standard ammunition are required. This is the main reason that police and military people continue to carry sidearms or rifles.
In a relatively small percentage of cases, standard bullets have been known to fail too - mostly in cases where the assailant is truly determined and/or very high on drugs. But guns that use traditional slugs remain the best "manstoppers" we have (short of bombs, in certain instances), at this point in time.
In the future, stunning rayguns like those used on Star Trek might be made available but we are simply not there yet.
