...Lee Child is probably my favorite writer and Jo Nesbo is second with his Harry Hole series - read them in order.
I'm sure you must read Michael Connelly - he's always good.
Robert Parker's Spenser series is another favorite.
If you are interested at all in history here's a few of my favorites:
A World Lit Only by Fire by William Manchester
Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford
John Adams by David McCullough
1776 by David McCullough
Tried by War: Abraham Lincoln as Commander in Chief by James M. McPherson
George Washington by Ron Chernow
Lawrence in Arabia by Scott Anderson
Follow Ups:
but we did hear McCullough in a City/Arts reading last year.
I love to listen to him - all his books live here, I should get my lazy ass picking one up to read.
My wife is the History buff.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
...another interesting one came to mind - Zealot by Reza Aslan. Then there are all the rock music books I could list starting with:
Life by Keef
Beatles Biography by Bob Spitz
Hotel California by Barney Hoskyns
The Nearest Faraway Place: Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys, and the Southern California Experience by Timothy White
