Subject says it all. What car would you buy TODAY that has a great chance of being a future classic? US Domestic or any other region is fine.

I think the new one will be as sought in the future as all previous iterations.
Dean.
reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
...the 'shape'* of that original GT40 from 1965 still works today on a road car. Perhaps many of those prototype cars that ran endurance racing in the mid sixties had shapes then that don't really seem dated.

* yes I know, the mechanicals are completely different. And the electronics did not exist then as it does now, but the overall shape still seems viable and more importantly, desirable.
Sign me up for one too. I'll figure out the funding later..;-)
Ford has no interest in selling to anyone who plans on sticking their new GT in a garage. They ONLY want folks who plan on using the car, and who have either racing or plenty of activites planned.
And yes, they want an essay, or some sort of report on the plans.. Plus certainly some background check. Before they will even put you in a waiting list.
If I could. So my grandchildren will be able to drive it.

...probably not for these reasons:
1. Batteries will be worn out and replacements unavailable.
2. The OS for the onboard computers will be obsolete, unsupported and crashed out of existence.
3. It will not be legal for humans to actually "drive" a vehicle on public roads.
LOL!!!!!
Yes.
Kinda makes all the other choices here redundant, too.

Maybe, the Porsche Cayman GT-4. Or any year, model 997, 991 GT-3.
... Aztek!
A good specimen should be encapsulated in Lucite.
- Eliminates chance someone will drive it and die.
- Keeps it from rotting from anything as it sits there.
Ah, the Homermobile. The Aztek, being one of absolute ugliest cars ever made, always reminded me of the Homermobile from the episode of the Simpsons where Homer finds his long lost half-brother who is a car company executive. The brother then allows Homer to design the company's next new model. You might imagine what Homer comes up with. You may be right. From what I've heard, even the AMC Pacer is making a comeback in popularity.
It's to late now, but, VW split window vans.
...I have a friend who restored a split window bug with a cloth sunroof for daily driving.
Non-turbo, lag-free, four-valve big-block punch, fantastic brakes, a very fun four-door that can be kept running a long time.
Maybe not a white one.
Acura NSX
Can you buy a current NSX today?
Can't argue with your speculation, and WOULD have bought an NSX versus my Porsche 964 back in the day, but I don't see any way to buy the NSX "today," as the OP states.
as a 2017 model.
IF I could afford to squirrel it away in perfect storage?
You BET.
The NSX is a fine collectible.
I have questions about the 'keeping' of the batteries and all the electrics. Should the car be kept on some kind of trickle charge? Started / driven on a regular schedule?
Can you get snow Tires?
Too much is never enough
Hey, in 20 years, if the capitalists take over the planet, you won't need snow tires, 'cause there won't be snow anymore - it'll be too warm. ("Down With Capitalism, Up With Carbon Trading Exchanges And Snow Tires!");)

IF? What makes you think the capitalist don't run things now?
The next group would be the UN Populists.
But I think the winner will be the Bilderberg Group. An unbeatable combination of banking and politics.
Carbon Trading Exchanges? Just another scam.
The REAL problem is TOO MANY PEOPLE.
Too much is never enough
I have to disagree on the "too many people" point. If you had said "too many people not producing anything and dragging the rest of us down", I'd be inclined to agree. But it is not my fault that there are collectively billions of people in China, India, Central and South America, the African continent and the Mideast who are killing us (figuratively) by their lack of contribution to civilization.
Frankly, I'm sick and tired of endless "dot orgs" and food companies yapping about "ending hunger" and the U.S. government taking my money to feed other people. "Ending hunger" ain't gonna happen until the slackers pick up the ball and start fending for themselves instead of relying on the rest of us to feed, clothe, medicate and educate them.
Yes, there are slackers right here in the U.S., but they're a drop in the bucket compared to what we export to help the rest of the world.
Just sayin'.

#51,
without going into agonizing detail, the PLANET is heading for the 'limits to growth'.
Examples?
Let's say we could feed everyone 1200 calories per day. Now, what do you do with the NEXT Billion people? Exponential growth of population is less than 2% which is STILL a doubling time of 36 years. Call the real doubling 45 years. UNless food production ALSO doubles in the next 45 years, we will be going backwards. Infinite Oceans? Plastic content rising. Dead / Oxygen depleted areas risisng. OVER FISHING is endemic. Are GMOs the solution or the problem?
Now, about Natural resources? Is there enough even with PERFECT convervation and recycling?
How about WATER? Wars and disagreements between nations are ALREADY becoming 'about water'.
Pollution? Food Supply?
Carrying capacity of the planet is the REAL #1 issue. These limits apply, even in a perfect world of maximum self sufficiency and sharing of resources. I think of it as a teeter totter. You can have a VERY high standard of living for a LOT of people for what amounts to a short period of time. OR you can have a SUSTAINABLE standard of living almost forever IF you limit the number of persons.
My opinion is that a FEW organizations are trying to get the planet into a position for a Soft Landing since the alternative is a CRASH and BURN situation. The End.
Too much is never enough
