1) bellows
2) close-up lenses (filter mount)
3) extension tubes
Must be one or more of the above solutions that will adapt to your Sony, no?
The butterfly photo is gorgeous. I've got nothing in the way of a sexy macro photo to share, so I'll share one of my son's instead! :-)
all the best,

I would use my 90mm Tamron 2.8 macro as a 'walk around' lens.
I suppose I could get used to an extension tube set.
Front component convertible are OK, but not the quality I'm looking for. Unless things have REALLY changed for the better.
As for Bellows? Intriguing idea. And would allow focus all the way to Micro. HMMMMM.
Extension tubes? That might be the way to go. Depending on the 'start' lens. These days I have the SONY 35mm 1.8 which I suspect would be a reasonable start. I've seen a non-Sony 60mm which might be better. A nice 90mm equivelent.
One OTHER idea and something I started with maybe 40 or so years ago is a REVERSE ADAPTOR. I used it on a Canon 50mm 1.8 with great results. The adaptor had an FD (than canon standard) lens mount on one side and 55mm Filter Threats (male) on the other. You screwed it into the lens like a filter and mounted it like a lens. Only the wrong way! No focus and aperture control was an acquired 'trick'. But it WORKED and I got my FIRST Macro Images. The lens turned backwards focused at 1:1 which was fine.
Too much is never enough
Of course, you're correct -- the filter-mount closeup attachments are pretty low-end (cheap and flexible though)... I (ahem) have an old set in my gadget bag ;-)
(don't much use 'em though)

I'll go check your gallery @deviantart.
My username over there is MaxBeta where I keep my 'fun' stuff.
What got me started on this was the Sony 'E'mount Macro is EITHER a useless and poor quality 30mm (!) or the NEW 'g' series of 90 or 100mm. The NEW lens is pretty good but also costs MORE than a Canon 'L' series Macro. Insane pricing, typical for Sony.

My son who defended his doctoral dissertation in mathematics at UVA last Friday :-)
see also his photoblog at the link below -- although he hasn't updated it since last fall (he's been a little busy, methinks).
all the best,

They need to talk ASAP.
My Son is on the verge of a BSME (Mechanical Engineering) but is having trouble with the differential equations class. Ha! Reminds me of when JC asked me...
:)
Speaking of BUGS?
BTW, I went thru the dragonfly gallery. you might have picked the best, but ALL were well done and speaking as someone who understands the difficulty, all are Worthy.
THIS Thing creeped me out.
