And not just any 3-speed auto. A turbo-hydramatic auto. Entirely appropriate to handle the monster torque coming off that not-so-revvy 455 mill. Assurance you will get a sub 14 sec. 1/4 mile.
I'm certain I must have spotted one or two of those in the Portland area circa 1971-72. And now we know this was just prior to the Arab Oil Embargos changed the entire automotive scene forever in this country.
Talk about a blast from the past. This is definitely one of them.

"3-speed manual" - thus my question below

What.....? The options and trim on that little number would include a 3-speed manual. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Let me see, Tempest, Lemans, GTO, GTO The Judge. Something like that. By 1971 The GTO is still assembled on the Tempest platform. And a Tempest could be had not only with a 3-speed manual......, but a slant 4-cyl.-Steve

By '71 the era of the OHC6 was over. Too Bad. The hiperf version was pretty quick. And with maybe 100lb LESS in the nose, probably handled and stopped better, too boot.
I see they DID but still can't believe they would sell this car with a 3spd manual. I wonder what the 'take rate' was?
Too much is never enough
