Is it true that SDGE is going to 'ding' you 500$ for a 'net metering' hookup?
What are the current bennies of going solar?
Any chance of you LOWERING your in-house consumption which would make going Off-Grid more feasible?
My usage is MUCH less than yours. Maybe 40% less. Depending on season.
If you use 20KWh per day, that's 600 per month.
I'd like to sit down and do the math with an eye toward going OFF GRID and telling SDGE to stuff it.

Follow Ups:
Sorry, didn't answer your original question; not sure about the hook-up fees, etc., I do know I'm grandfathered in from any proposed rate hikes which were recently approved and due to kick in this Summer.
The reason I ask is that SDGE is ALWAYS gaming the system, looking to protect Management Bonuses at the expense of the ratepayer.
You'll never get a check FROM them, if I understand correctly. At some point, maybe annually, they'll 'Zero' you out and start over.

ONLY worth it if your monthly electric bill is equal to or greater than owning the panels. In my case my monthly bill is just about averaged the cost of owning the panels (roughly $150-$200).Pretty cool when they fired it up and see the meter spin backwards ...can't run it full time yet until the city comes out and inspects it on Monday.
That 'backwards' spin is energy banked (stored) on the grid at SDG&E and credited for future billing.
I'm out of town next weekend (6-9May); I can stop by (9May) if you don't have anything planned.

Come on DOWN on the 9th.
PM me and I'll ship you a phone #
That's a MONDAY, right? See 'ya than.
Bring your camera, some of your music and we'll do it.
…..cheers…..
