Eye yie yie.All day. Beep beep beep beep.
Every time the heavy equipment vehicle backs up, it's "beep beep beep beep".
First of all, I shouldn't be able to hear this INSIDE MY HOUSE a half mile away (ditto for train horns)!
Can't our 4 trillion-dollar-a-year government come up with a less obnoxious sound? How about just "beeeeep" with some pleasant overtones (or with special emphasis on the 7th harmonic), or a major triad chord, or, better yet, "nothing"?
"Whoa, dude, check out the heavy loader backing up! Glad it had a beeper, and wasn't my Mom's SUV which doesn't have a beeper, or I'd have never seen nor heard it coming."
"Nothing". Hmmmm, there's a thought - people should simply watch and be aware of what's going on around them. What a concept.
These incessant "beep, beep, beep, beep" warnings are designed for morons, but, the morons aren't paying attention. And, so, the rest of us pay the price.
Still, the politicians and their special interest groups who benefit from this idiocy benefit from this idiocy. What companies produce these "beepers"?
:)

I live between a police station and a fire station. I use these products linked at amazon below.
That's actually kind of interesting. Noise generators can mask other broadband noise, and have been used in office environments for decades, but they're poor at masking pure or nearly pure sinusoidal sounds.
This is one reason why birds and other critters can hear each other over long distances, even in the presence of urban noise. It's a sonic signature which stands out from the ambient noise.
