People getting paid more than the public might expect they would. There are tons of jobs like that. The people who have them don't make big noise about it...
The real issue is what does $160K buy in Minnesota?
It is Minimum here in the greater SF-Bay area - at least if you want to stay and have more than 150 Sqr. feet to your self...

Not surprising that it was in California, where all kinds of weird ideas come from.
Still, I like CALiFORNia. ;) I'd go live there if:
1. The state gov't wasn't so stupid.
2. The taxes and housing prices weren't so high.
3. It wasn't falling into the ocean "sometime soon".
I abhor falling into the ocean without notice.

Most residents simply look on the downside stuff as 'good weather tax'.
