"And all that stuff has GOT to be $$$$ expensive. Crazy costly sport. "
The best (well only) numbers I could find were that a top NASCAR team has an annual budget of $20million while a WRC team goes through around $90million.
Audi spends $242million pa on racing Le Mans Prototypes.

Try THIS.
Information applies only to NASCAR, the horrible end to what WAS ONCE 'Stock Car Racing'.
These days? Look-alike cars with common chassis. Engine building companies. And hyper aggressive driving style, the norm.
I think they should go all the way and sponser 'Death Race Nascar'
Too much is never enough
According to your link a NASCAR racer costs $200k these days.
WRC cars are based on production hatchbacks but once they added the 1.6L turbo engine, 4wd, sequential gearbox etc each car costs about $1million.
The rest goes for parts, 20-30 staff per car and the not insignificant travelling costs around the world. There is no real money to be made either since there are no tickets sold. Everybody can watch WRC for free as it is run on public roads.
Manufacturers enter purely for the prestige and the age old adage of 'Win on Sunday, sell on Monday'.
