In a nutshell: The team behind the project, known as EXACTO and developed by America's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has released a video showing the smart bullets in action, successfully changing their course in order to hit a moving target. It's thought that they work by using small fins on the sides of the bullet to guide it to the target, which is tracked by lasers, although DARPA are being understandably quiet about its exact inner workings.
Follow Ups:
At lunch today, I was catching up on old episodes of the TV series "Chuck" and behold, the episode was about the bad guys having GPS guided bullets that do exactly what you linked to. How scary is that?
I don't think so.

It's news worthy; No humans were harmed in the making of that video I assure you, if that helps.

The guy fires off about 55 million rounds and most of the pigs still get a away!

the asswholes are laughing and having fun while doing it.
What poor excuses for human beings.

... I watched the video a few times but I fail to see what is funny or amusing about it.
If feral pigs need to be culled then so be it. It should be done professionally.
A few yobbos behaving like drug-crazed lunatics making a game out of killing animals with a machine gun is just sick.
Unfortunately these type of people walk among us.

I'm a lifetime NRA member; That's one of the most fucked-up things I have seen in some time.
Appalling.

But sadly 484 thumbs up.
but that was just sick self-indulgence. How did they get so close to so many pigs at once? My guess is they lured them into a pen, got into firing position, then released them. On the flip side, I've seen professional pig "remediators" on TV that trap, tie up, then cart off the pigs. I suppose it's to avoid upsetting sensitive property owners, because it seems to me that it would be a lot less risky to simply dispatch them on the spot.
