So for some reason when I renewed my drivers license I got a license that says right on it "not for federal identification". I've flown twice this year and both times one way from Cincinnati back to Dulles.
No problem, they didn't look I guess. The second time last Saturday my ticket even said TSA PRE meaning I was already prescreened. I would have thought I would have been flagged for being one way and the fact the ticket was not bought by me.
I even had my friend wait until I made it through security before leaving the airport in case they didn't let me fly.

If you are a government employee or in the military, you can sign up for the program and benefit from the TSA pre-screening. Are states offering a federal approved version for non government and military members?
If a state-issued license is so emblazoned... then the only acceptable form of Federal ID would be a Passport(?!).
all the best,

evidently there is an option for Federal ID that I did not check. I've already been back to the DMV about it and its an easy fix. It requires that they have some docs on file like a birth cert etc.

...you can get two types of drivers licenses, those which can be used for federal ID and those which can't. For those that can, you must present your old license, your birth certificate and a piece of mail addressed to you ...and I think it costs a few bucks more. To get the standard license you just turn in your old one.The standard license cannot be used to board a plane. I have two friends who were turned away at TSA security at JFK for having the wrong license.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.

I know I lucked out by getting on two flights with it. I'm going to change it to the Federally approved version in the next week.
