the vet wanted us to keep GGGIII inside and we have since we got him home Friday morning.
He was given a '14 day' antibiotic injection.
But he hasn't taken a dump yet. Is the antibiotic a factor?
Bear in mind that he is old-ish , in his 15th year, and he might be a bit low in mood / depressed?
I know how to get him to pee on (or near) the tray, and he is doing it now without much intervention on my part. I rub him on his belly way back low underneath.
But, how do I get him to take a dump in the tray?
Is he jacking up because we won't let him out?
I am going to fill the second spare tray with pellets, and see what happens.

GGGIII has done his business.
But he HATES being inside.
We will use bad weather days to gradually bring him around, and then Winter will come along in 3 months and it will get easier.

The only excursion outside is when one or both of us sit outside to read or enjoy sitting in the sun. We let her come out with us and she stays within 10 feet and in sight all the time. She is, after all, a pussy. (pardon the expression)
We never let her out on her own. In 15 years she has never been sick or mugged and has never seen a Vet's office since we saved her from death row 15 years ago.
We have a large stainless steel bowl for water.
I think we will try keeping him in, for good.
DT seems to know how to stay out of trouble. We sill see.

If he's not drinking regular water give him the juice from tinned tuna in water.
Call the vet if no joy as he may need hydration shots.
Did your vet offere any diet advice for this 2-week period? I don't know this as absolute fact, but I think grain-based food might be a bit constipating while his gut motility is slowed.
Any cat will use a box if he can't get to his usual spots for elimination -- if you show him where it is, and its clean. But they will hold it way past the point where you will worry to death about him. Cat willpower can move a mountain; second only to stubborn levels.
Hang in there Tim. Its a mind game. Keep that old dude in, away from his sparring buddies, because he's even slower now while his healing is under way.
