Pound for pound, a large can of tuna costs more than a small can. Same caveat applies: If you want the larger amount, it's cheaper to buy two smaller cans.
I'm sure it applies everywhere. It's like a convenience store: It's the price you pay for the convenience of one package instead of two.

even though the packaging of two smaller cans cost more than one large one. Makes no sense.

People are conditioned to THINK that they save if they buy the bigger package. But, "they" are out to make a profit.
So, if one blindly follows what they are conditioned to believe, even when the packages are clearly marked, whose fault is it if they don't think?
