A nice fellow at the Polk Audio forums lent me an interesting lens this past fall: a very early AF-Nikkor (see link below) -- an 80 mm f2.8 lens that's rather uncommon and held in fairly high regard (absent its archaeo-AF capability).
This lens's odd natural history renders it uncharacteristically incompatible with modern AF Nikons, film or digital. Thus, with a mixture of glee and apprehension, I pulled down one of the shelf queens, a Nikon F, chucked the AF-Nikkor on it, popped a roll of Tri-X into it, and -- one pleasant November day, ca. Veterans' Day -- went for the gusto.
My son, just today, shared a Google Drive location with me -- over the holidays, he got the film developed and scanned; I guess he uploaded the photos this weekend.
I was very pleasantly surprised that the old camera worked and my ability to guesstimate exposures (with a little help from some parallel photos taken with the DSLR) wasn't abysmal.
I know this is on the egocentric side of esoteric, but I thought I'd share a photo (above) -- hope some of you can share my enthusiasm for images captured through the magic of photochemistry via grains of silver.
Have a fine MLK day on Monday!
all the best,

Too bad that for STUDENTS, most Film Bodies are rapidly becoming Shot Out. Finding a good old film body, like say a Pentax Spotmatic or Tlb or Ftb Canon (FD lens) is also a waste of time.
ME, I recommend, or DID recommend film to newbies, but film support is dwindling rapidly.
OH! the films I used for special purposes or when doing a wedding! No More.
Maybe I'll drag out my 120 and see what gives.
Also, if you continue to use your F1, I'd recommend a decent external meter. I use a Sekonic L358 which in 'incident' mode is tops.

using $15-20 adapters. I have a couple old Pentax Takumar 50mm (a f1.7 and a 1.4) as well as a few Leica screw mounts (35mm, 50, 90). The results can be very nice, albeit without autofocus. However, the cameras still do the auto exposure, face detection, etc. You just set the aperture and manually focus. Great glass makes for great images. I can also mount all my Canon EOS lenses on my mirrorless Oly EPL5 body.
Some Canon glass is terrific. For the PRICE I'd NEVER be without the 'plastic fantastic' in the form of the 50mm f1.8 which has NO more metal in it than absolutely necessary. Light, cheap and nearly disposible. Great images.
The Canon Kit Lens? Donate to a landfill ASAP and replace with the Gold Band lens….I think it was a 28-135 or some such. Very good and not L pricing.
The Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro is good and inexpensive, probably 90% of the Canon or Nikon lens.
I recently SOLD a Canon 20-35 f2.8L which was considered a landmark lens.
I can get similar adaptors for my NEX EMount stuff to MANY others……and it IS tempting!
