We usually see that in the Spring, with the fawns in the front meadow. Just happy to be alive.....
when a hot young 21 year old comes on to him. You could wave a medium-rare ribeye in front of him and he'd show infinitely more interest.
And that's because he's been around the block more than once.He ain't interested in just any piece of meat.

Old guys know that there's probably only one reason that a lovely young lass would be coming on to a guy that's 60 years old, and most of us aren't interested in that kind of transaction.
Plus my wife won't allow it. ;-)

I had an English Setter as a kid that would do that same thing with rocks - put his entire head under water to get a good grip on it, then carry it to shore. Both of the tips of his lower canines were chipped off from that activity. I never did figure out what he got out of it.
Our Australian Shepherd also engages in weird rock behavior.
We have a lot of fences to step over on our daily walks. Before jumping
each fence, she finds a small rock to take with her and the drops it once
she completes the jump.
I've searched web, asked the vets ... not a clue as to why.

That is so she can go back later and count the number of times she has jumped over each fence.

That never occurred to me ... smart dog that she is!

ignore such a happy, playful, joyful dancer as that.
Then again, I remember a former roommates' Golden Retriever as being
pretty... focused. And not terribly bright.
