See ya. Dave
very nice, have you ever seen their migration? Millions of them in a black cloud swirling all around you. I saw it one time and will never forget the sound of millions of butterfly wings....
...they hibernate in eucalyptus trees in clumps in Pacific Grove and Santa Cruz (Natural Bridges State Park) and then when the temperature hits about 65 degrees in January or February they begin flying all around.
At Natural Bridges they have a wooden trail down to where they are and a docent will loan you binoculars so you can see them.
They feed on milkweed which is becoming less common because of climate change and the drought so they are endangered.
Beautiful.
climbed out of the car and suddenly the sun went dark. I looked up and that is when a huge cloud of monarchs engulfed me and swirled around and made that noise and slowly continued on their way.
It was a totally overwhelming experience....
I made a fine white sauce using just their legs and antenna..
Those shown here are wintering over. Hanging out before booking a cruise south.
they look sharp in their SF Giants colors!!
