Of all the Series in the world, he had to walk into ours.

Actually, the locals are feeling pretty good today. Having had to put up with poor to mediocre teams for so long, the past two years have been a lot more fun, this year in particular. With a small market payroll of only $90 million this year, the Royals ended up in the series whereas the usual powerhouses didn't even make the playoffs.
Hopefully, what we've seen over the past season will convince the ownership to continue to find the money to get the key players for continued success. That's the only way to keep baseball relevant in the KC market.
As for Mr Bumgarner, he is a special pitcher. When his free agency comes up, he'll command enough money on his contract to buy a small state or his own island republic. He surely won't have to eat Top Ramen noodles in the foreseeable future.
I don't know who the owners are, but for as big as baseball is in that town, they have never retained their better players. They bring them in from the farms, train them up to do good things, then wouldn't pay them what they were worth. That's been KC's thing for decades. Contract up? OK, see ya. They end up on the Yankees or Red Sox payroll. One of the lowest budgets in baseball.
I've seen the same thing for an even longer period with the Detroit Lions. Previous owner Bill Ford never had an interest in team development. He's bring in a star like Barry Sanders to keep people coming to the ballpark. Never built a support for him. Same for others. Come see our star get the crap kicked out of him in a valiant, but way short effort.

the Royals were in it. They have nothing to be ashamed of and in 2015 I would not be surprised to see them right back in it. For both teams it was a season of bummers, surprises and astounding heroes.
Madison has done this 3 times, he is 25.
