In Reply to: RE: Hey Rod, tin, PAC 12 and USC fans, football fans, here's an article I dug up while looking for ammo posted by Road Warrior on October 20, 2014 at 16:01:55
Interesting stats here:

It looks like a local Los Angeles broadcast for the game, so it might have been Channel 11 KTTV, with Tom Kelly announcing. It's so long ago, I don't remember. He was the voice of the Trojans that I remember, but it's a fuzzy.

Having gotten in my cheap shot...
Tiger fans were very excited to have an opportunity to see our team play a top team from the West Coast. Really, you guys put together a Helluva team that year. Too bad about that tie y'all had with Stsnford or SC might have edged out 'bama for another national championship.

But the 1970 that beat Alabama at home is notorious for causing the desegregation of the SEC.

If you haven't seen it, I'd heartily recommend it.
I absolutely love it that you guys have played each other 7 (looked it up) times and are playing again in 2016.

to win. 17-12. White ran for 191 yards. LSU got revenge 5 years later in L.A., 24-3 IIRC. Lots of interesting insights in that article, how the team was treated, complete lack of racism toward blacks on the team, the atmosphere surrounding the whole affair before the game, movie night for SC playermen, etc..

And here's the youtube vid of the face mask play. Clearly a helmut twist, but not a neck breaker. I remember that team, and I loved Robinson as a Trojan coach. He was a great Rams coach, too. As an LA resident, he was my favorite, although he never got to Rams to the big game. He did resurrect Charles White one year as a Rams tailback, and it was an inspiring experience for Rams/Trojans/LA football fans. FYI, Always a Trojans fan and the rivalry between they and the Bruins was awesome. Terry Donahue versus John Robinson. Wow.
And that article is killer. Brings it all back to me, thanks.

from another angle. Still doesn't look like a face mask but hey, it was a great game, LSU wasn't going anywhere that year anyway, and we got revenge in L.A. 5 years later.
