Edit: That should be Jessica FoxFor winning the gold medal in Women's C-1 (single canoe) class at the ICF World Whitewater Slalom Championships held in western Maryland. She is one of the favorites to win in the K-1W (women's single kayak as well. Both her mother and father won golds 25 years ago when the Worlds were held here on the near-by Savage River.
I mean, how can you not root for this lass?Neil

;-) Here's an old Aussie shaggy-dog story." Boundary jobs?
Among the roles on our BIG sheep / cattle / both property's - some approaching England in area - there's the job of 'boundary rider'!
- responsible for keeping the fences up and dug in (against rabbits), and dealing with ours/theirs strays to either side of the boundary, etc etc.
Long lonely days job, and huge distances ridden, and carries with it another Aussie term - the 'boundary rider's hut' - several of per property. A primitive abode.
Which I use as the notional site for a meeting between two neighbouring sheep-cockies (the refined word being 'grazier') the story being about them meeting under the awning of one such hut -
Which keeps out some of the steadily roaring rain, like they haven't seen for a decade, but has been coming down like this for a few days now, constant ....
and talking about the likely rate of rise of the flood waters, and which route, in the circumstances (very flat is inland Aussie), to take to the Royal Show with his prize Merino rams.
And, the cockie with dreams of the finest flock in NW NSW, after quietly considering the issue, says.
"Y'know I think I better take the missus, she's stood by me through this and all the other droughts!"
So if I ever do make it to either West-fest, Ribfest, or whatever, and you have any ex-cheerleaders among the ladies, do warn em not to say 'I/we'll be rooting for YOU, Timbo!', just don't or I might believe em!
;-) "
As in I'd like to .... her! ? Yes!?

I could go with either one, or both, meanings.

the US won gold in the Men's C-1. Fabien Lefevre is a Frenchman who came over to the American side. Hey, if they're good, we'll take 'em.
