...Is there a clutch pedal? Even with the paddle shifters, I presume it's not an automatic transmission. Race cars should have gear shifts and clutches. Old fashion thinking, I'm sure.
... They are much quicker (acceleration) faster (changing up & down the ratios) and more customizable than a manual.
These days even road sports cars and grand tourers the autos are quicker than the manuals.

...but three pedals are a helluva lot more fun to drive than stab-n-steer, at least to this old die-hard shifter.
That gives a better understanding than my post below. F1 cars are the most sophisticated cars in motorsport. The past few races have been some of the best I've seen of late, Hungary last week was fantastic. Hamilton has been driving the wheels off his car the past 2 races starting from pit lane and at Hungary Alonso did the same, finishing 2nd on what had to be completely worn out tires.

It looks like a damn joke, so thought I'd better ask for clarification.
Here ya go
No they don't have a clutch pedal, it's controlled by a paddle on the steering wheel. The clutch is only used to start from a standing stop. During the race the clutch isn't used.

Must be an exhilarating feeling to drive such a machine.

After winning Le Mans in '08 Allan McNish tested an F1 car and said afterwards that it felt underpowered.
