Anyone watching the games from Glasgow?
South Africa last night beat New Zealand in the Rugby Sevens final. The first game New Zealand have ever lost in the games apparently.
Australia done well in the Marathons, taking 1st in the mens and 3d in the ladies.
Both Squash mens finalists are English, and the quality of the play so far has been tremendous
We've had untypicaly great weather for the first few days, and it's been quite a spectacle.
I was in Glasgow on Saturday, and the atmosphere's fantastic. Visitor levels are expected to be in the region of 700,000.

Just watched the Indian Womens Squash team win gold in the doubles. One of them is from our town. Proud!

no Fiji in the sevens? They generally do quite well

Fiji was suspended from the Commonwealth due to a military putsch and failing to hold democratic elections on the date promised.
Due to this Fiji also became the first nation ever to be suspended from the Pacific Islands Forum.
Fiji is still a member of both and will be readmitted once free elections are held.
considering my dear wife of nearly 44 years is from Fiji and still has two brothers there. Tsk Tsk

Actually Fiji has been allowed to participate in the current games but this decision was made in March while the Rugby Sevens competitors and schedule were announced in February.
Fiji missed out by 3 weeks or so.
...was awesome!
Scotland gave the Kiwis a jolly good run for their money too.
Looking forward to it becoming an olympic sport in Rio!
Yes, it should be a great addition.
I'm hoping Squash will finally get an invitation as well. I've never understood why it wasn't included, given some of the sports already in.
Now that they have portable courts and good television coverage, the chances should improve.
Squash has been in it as long as Rugby Sevens and is now a 'core' sport.
I had to look this up on wiki. There are three types of disciplines: Core, Optional and Recognised.
Core sports must be held plus a number of optional ones. After that a host nation may choose to include recognised sports.
Cycling and Diving are optional but have been included since the '30s while others like rowing happen only very occasionally.
Trust the English to come up with such a labyrinthine system! ;-)
