On the darker side is House of Cards. Also, Breaking Bad and Dexter. There's also the remained Battlestar Galactica from last decade which I believe is still on Netflix and is a really fun ride.

still, even after having left my brain at the door, I still felt dumber for having watched it. Loved the denouement of Margot(!!!!!!!) and the Chinaman at the end. Hope they have another reboot.

TV sucks period, all year long. It's getting more and more unbearable to watch for many reasons. Program to commercial ratio is the biggest issue but there are many others.

House-sitting for my kids vacation.
I don't have cable and rely on Netflix but got hooked on Food Network: Diner, Dives and Drive-ins and Cut Throat Kitchen which is really clever.
Netflix for me is old comedies and Westerns, some shows like 30 Rock and House of Cards. For some reason I don't tire of formulaic comedies but dramas of that type lose me. House of Cards was OK to good for a season but then I lost interest.
I get my fill of Sex on Sports Illustrated's Web Site and violence, CNN.
into the first season -disc one of the Americans and man I am hooked. Good stuff.
I also enjoyed the Longmire series.
And Deadwood is well worth re-watching...
Inglorious Basterds, and Demien Bichir (always good). It's as dark as a wolf's mouth, the darling of the critics, and an absolute treat to watch as the (very complex) story progresses.BTW, a HUGE + 1 on Deadwood.

The UK version of Sherlock Holmes is very good.
...I know it's not NetFlix, and you may have seen this show already, but I recommend "Drunk History." Just saw it for the first time last week, and I think it's a very clever, funny show. Yes, it's a bit low brow, but then again, it has a certain charm to it. Make me laugh a lot, and I'm fairly difficult to please. It's not part of the endless apocalypse TV that we're getting rammed down our throats. I also like the first 2 seasons of Longmire. Good luck finding good stuff. On Netflix, I hear that "Orange is the new Black," is a fine show too.
The 3rd season was just released on Netflix, so you've got 30 episodes.
It's a post Civil War series about the building of the railroad to the West Coast. The 4th season airs on AMC beginning August 2nd.

Warning though - You'll need time and patience for Tarkovsky, but his movies are beautifully shot and mind-blowing.

After going through all the major hits, they are very good at finding the sleepers.#
