All excited about it, only I have to get up early in the morning to watch it. Meanwhile watching the Indian Premier League Cricket for the next one month.
I wish I could go to Brazil and watch at the Stadium. Soccer is so much more exciting live than on TV. Big difference.

... More people play & watch football than any other sport in the world by a very considerable margin.
The World Cup is open to 209 nations to qualify. It is truly a world competition and not just a myopic egotistical wank off!
I will be watching a number of the games.
However, unless we are talking about a, 1995 Krug Clos d'Ambonnay or a, 1990 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche, I don't think I will be "wildly excited" in front of the TV unless of course my beautiful wife is dancing in front of it.

This time England will struggle to make it past the group stages as both Italy and Uruguay are officially the better teams.
Germany will play Ghana again with a fair chance that Jerome Boateng will line up against his brother Kevin Prince Boateng.
Their maternal grandfather won the World Cup with Germany in '54.

I don't know about "wildly excited" but I will watch what games I can which will be few due to the fact that I don't have cable TV at home.
I'm betting that the majority of nay-sayers have never played the game.
Beats watching NASCAR go round and round in circles. Golf? Hit a ball, walk, hit a ball walk... NBA? Lots of scoring, but nothing really happens until the 4th quarter, then the last 5 minutes takes half an hour. Baseball's been mentioned (a lot of scratching and spitting and adjusting of batting gloves). But everyone raves about a 1-0 game that goes 15 innings and lasts nearly 4 hours. Men's tennis is serve-return...serve-return (much like what men's volleyball has become.)
The US has not been successful in international soccer partly (IMO) because players have grown up with the "Super Bowl", "Stanley Cup", "World Series" mentality, wherein the league championship is the be-all and end-all of their professional aspirations. Here the World Cup is considered to interrupt the MLS season every four year. For players elsewhere around the world, club soccer is what fills the time between World Cups.
Things are changing. More National team caliber players are staying home to play in the states (MLS) and more players who went overseas to increase their chances are coming back to the US. MLS is expanding. The league announced today that Atlanta will be awarded the next franchise. Many foreign teams and leagues (South America and parts of Europe) are in a mess and top players may be looking to the US as an option. MLS teams are developing youth academies to develop young players rather than rely on the colleges to act as their minor league. I haven't looked, but I think right now the 76ers would be glad to have the average attendance that the Union draw just a few miles down the road.

A game where endurance is a key factor, not constant time outs or relief like baseball, football, and basketball. You play 45 minutes a half with very minimal stoppages.
And…. it's the only major sport where the human hand isn't used: it's the foot, an obviously far more difficult appendage to have controlling a ball, especially combining it with running!

depends whether those matches are up against reruns of Revenge or Scandal or something else I'm trying to ketchup on.
Ecuador is a cinch to advance out of Group E (duhhhh). Mendez and Ayovi are getting long in the tooth but we've got young studs too like Montero, Valencia, and Caicedo(sp?) who can bring it.
In all honesty, I WOULD rather watch soccer than bowling or car races, FWTW.

It's like watching paint dry.They play for 90 minutes, another 4 or 5 for "extra time", whatever the hell that is, and the score is 0-0. Then they have a kickoff to see who wins.
Simple solution: Have the kickoff and the whole thing can be over in 10 minutes.
Edit: Oh yes, and all those exciting youtube moments. Somebody scores a goal! Goal! Yes, truly exciting. Or, somebody misses a goal. How awful.
For every youtube minute of actual action there's hundreds, if not thousands of hours of watching paint dry.

baseball is like that too...
Most baseball players couldn't run 500 yards w/out collapsing.
is the most tedious, mind-numbingly dull 'sport' I ever had the misfortune to watch.
Watching paint dry or grass grow is extremely exciting compared to the drudge that is baseball.
I've done two of the most boring things a person can waste time on: Going fishing at 5 in the morning, and going to a baseball game. My Grandpa took me to a Milwaukee Braves game when I was a kid. It was nice that he did it, but I was bored silly. Almost as if to pass along that experience, I agreed to take my son to a Texas Rangers game, at the invitation of an acquaintance who had access to season tickets. The best thing about the game was the beer and hotdog. That was about 10 years ago, and we've not been to one since, I'm pleased to say.
With regard to fishing... There seems to be a lot of people who don't realize that fish are often sold in grocery stores, and for a lot less than the price of a boat and the other stuff needed to sit quietly for hours, not to forget having to clean them (if you catch any).
Speaking of watching paint dry, I think it's dry now (it's been 3 days), so it's time to put up the new bathroom hardware which of course won't match up with the holes from the old hardware.

Cricket would be a considerable improvement over baseball and cricket is quite tedious.
I don't have a TV, well I mean I don't have TV service. I use youtube to watch conspiracy documentaries and catch up on alternative media from my projector but that is it.
news junky, I'm trying to stop watching that too, do more reading.
