Sorry about that. I figured since I am from North Carolina is sort of goes hand in hand that Caroline is from the USA. Congrats to you guys for taking the Silver. Canada and the US women have been battling each other in 8s rowing for years.

I didn't realize you were in NC. I am not much for poking around in other guys' profiles. Glad to see the Chinese aren't taking everything.

I saw an interesting story on Chinese athletes. They are basically taken from the family at a young age and sent off to some academy where they are rigorously trained and also shielded from the normal world. One athlete wasn't even told of her grandparents death until after she'd won the gold medal...they worried it would affect her performance. For the Chinese, winning is more important for domestic propaganda as opposed to the medal count. For the Chinese government it's a desparate attempt to use sports to sustain national pride and patriotism...among a population in which discontent with the totalitarian state...is growing more widespread as time goes on. It's not too far fetched an idea that they will do anything to win...even cheat. Some of their athletes were kicked out today for deliberately trying to lose games in order to be paired against weaker teams.
There was a story on NPR yesterday morning about a Chinese athlete who was crying profusely during an interview after his event. Through an interpreter we learned he was saying, "I am sorry. I have shamed my country for an inexcusable offense (yadda, yadda...)"
His offense? He only won silver.
