Sure, an assassin assassinates people for a living, but to be very good at it.....
Like most, I'm sure, I've been bombarded with the news about the H1N1 virus. It's everywhere, yet it is nowhere, because it seems to be a very distant thing. At least it seemed distant until last night.
My brother in law, a 45-year old guy who maybe cracked a beer open on a fishing trip once, and still thinks "shucks" is a curse word, didn't feel very well this last Friday. He decided to stay home, marking his second sick day in over twenty years.
By noon he was coughing up blood, so my sister promptly nagged him to the doctor's office. One thing led to another, and the next thing you know he is sitting in an emergency room being told he has the H1N1 virus. He was going through "business as usual" in the emergency room -- if you've been there, you know -- and then on Sunday afternoon it was all over. Just like that, he was gone.
Wow. H1N1 is suddenly on the doorstep.
In fact, I mis-read at first and thought he had gotten over it as quickly as it came. Anyway-all of my best wishes, thoughts, prayers etc., are with you all.

Sad, I'm pretty busy and pretty stressed but thinking of you two, and caring kinda helps and does NOT make things worse.

Did he have anything else going on that would set bhim up for such a big hit?
For some, it's the vigor of their immune response that can make trouble.
H1N1 can get your own immune response to help kill you. H1N1 can result in mortality mediated through massive induction of Th1 cytokines - it's your own immune parts that get all revved up and kill you in an H1N1 induced frenzy.
You become your immune system's innocent bystander.
It's a fuckin' wild thing.
What a bummer, Bruce.
Many good thoughts headed your way.
On a pound for pound basis, those viruses are geniuses.

immune systems could, in fact, be in the most danger. Damn! Guess I shouldn't be so nonchalant

That was certainly a slap in the back of the head for me. H1N1 is far worse than I imagined.

Bruce, I am so sorry to hear this.
After mild consequences of a flu passing through this household within the last month, it's profoundly sad to hear that H1N1 can take one so vital and unaware of the devastation it can wreak.
You stay as well as you can, my friend. Please.

Very sorry for your family's lose, Bruce. I've been working overtime spreading the word to all those who feel the vaccination is not necessary.

We think we had H1N1 in the house last month - our 12 yr old. It slowed him down for a couple days, left the rest of us alone, then exited. Accounts like yours are going to be repeated this season, unfortunately. That damn virus can be both efficient and selective, apparently. Assassin is the right word.
Take care of yourself, and family.

I like it. I like it a lot.
Words do not work well in these situations, but my condolences to all ....
Did he have children?
Condolences. Did his flu progress to Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)? My brother-in-law died from this several years ago. Hidden "walking pneumonnia" (no fever, no coughs) lead to ARDS after doing some yard work, one weekend. He was dead in two days. Left two grammar school aged kids. Very scary stuff.
You take care of yourself, too!
let's hope the stay is short

My condolences to you and the family. I really hope it can be eradicated ASAP; fortunately with our much greater knowledge of these things there is hope we will not see a repeat of previous events.
Wow.
It's way too easy to forget that life is fragile....very fragile. My condolences, Bruce
.
My condolences, what a horrible thing to have happen for such a young man. Hug your wife and your kids everyday, you never know what minute thing can take away a loved one.
My daughter is now sick, just came down with a cold but seems worse, am going to keep 2 eyes open on her and her sister.
One of our employees has it, but seems to be dealing with it well and should be back any day now. There must be other factors that determine how hard it hits.
I guess this is a wake up call, because I never worried about this much before.
My condolences Bruce. I am very sorry. And frightened.
Especially since you've been going through so much.

I'm at a loss for words, I am saddened for you and family.
so sad to hear of your terrible and sudden loss. my sincere condolences to you and all of your family.
my condolences to his family and friends. You take care of yourself.

H1N1 is a bad bug. My youngest son had it and was sick for 7 days.
Some people get sick and some people get really sick. It is like a
plague here in NC where I live. All of the kids are getting it at
school and bringing it home to their families. Stay well and stay
away from anyone you suspect might have it.
.
My condolences and hope the rest of the family is OK.
Very scary for healthy guys like you and me.
There is no such thing as too many records.
There is just too little room for them!
and then shocked and saddened.
That news just is WRONG on so many different levels. Shit.

Heartfelt condolences for your sister and family are indeed winging over the water....
Now make very sure that you bloody well look after yourself and Diane, for heaven's sake!!...
Pull up whatever drawbridges are required to minimise your personal risk, especially as you are at a lower ebb from currently being under other treatment... Wash your hands with virulently anti-bacterial solution so frequently that you risk taking a new layer of skin off each day...
Do whatever it takes to stay clear of this bug... You're important to us, you b#stard...

Mutated and absorbed into the big McDonald's gene pool blender. You have to wonder how many it will take down before then. Sorry for the loss. That sounded fast.
that's terrible!!
So sorry to hear it. I'm very sorry for you, your sister and her family. Just awful.
"The man is only half himself, the other half is his expression." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
That's horrible... and weird.
From what I've read of H1N1 it seems he was in the least likely age group to be so susceptible to it. Shows what's known about it.
Condolences to you all on your tragic loss.

My heartfelt condolences to you and everyone else.

Sorry to hear that, Bruce. Condolences to your wife.
Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.
like most people, I have gone on my daily routine and been sad to hear of those who contracted this new strain. I have seen those cases on the news where young kids have been kept alive in the ER for days due to it. But your experience really brings home the impact of this killer. Again, I am sorry that your family has lost such a valuable member
Condolences to your sister. I thought this H1N1 thing was supposed to have relatively mild symptoms for adults. Coughing up blood?
Btw, the way the government is distributing the first batch of the vaccine is typically obtuse, and dangerous. it's being distributed through the emergency network. They're having having free drive-through vaccinations at local health service districts and giving the shots to anyone who drives through regardless of whether or not they're in a high risk group. Primary care physicians with high risk patients are still waiting for the vaccine.
