that's for sure. The smoke, ash, embers and that blasted smell has just become too much.

a couple of weeks out of the year, but lately it seems to go on a bit longer than it used to. I think people are putting AC in new construction.

The houses in San Diego and San Clemente didn't have it, and it was never needed. The houses in Ventura didn't have it, but it seems like it started to become a necessity around 1993. And they say climate change isn't happening. ;~) I put a whole-house fan in the last house in Ventura, but it really needed air conditioning.
You can always run over to Lowe's and get one of those swamp cooler/hepa filter/ion generator thingies that you can move from room to room. We've got one and it works great in the spring and fall. It's just no match for the high temperatures in the summer.
