Do recall that I am trained in these issues and spent a good deal of my career measuring and designing industry-level reforms. In each case supported and inputted by the majority of the businesses involved! so not top-down policy!
And her goes. I'm not certain, did anyone raise? the effect all of those downsizing cycles have had on the relationship 'tween them and US, or YOU and us Koots! ;-)!.While I'm sure that some downsizing has been valid, I'm also fairly confident it was - for most managers - driven by the short-term thinking a day-by-day obsession with share-price and market-buzz tends to drive in mgrs behaviour. ever tighter budgets?
Also, I think it is true of the business world - in my time trying to assist it via policy, OR design in automated/EC business procedures, and since -
that short term expectations / imperatives -
'managers have to produce results quickly' / acceptance that 'they may not stay-on'
- arose long before downsizing did.
I think we've commoditised work so much, that trust and other human values / golden rules have had to give. QED.
And, that's why I'm not a 'conservative'!, sorry guys! Noting that maximising employer power over the employee's over the 'employment contract', can come back to bite you, anyway! Clearly! Makes me grin!? Nature is full of these correcting tendencies.
But once we know we do it, why don't we stop!? Cos we're animals, guys! sheep? not quite I ween, but I did used to make sheep-bahhing noises during meetings! ;-) yep!?
And, I am on about conserving human decency!
I think allowing markets, to operate anyway they want, always and in every case,
-especially for PEOPLE, who are inseparable from their work in all ways -
Is a disgusting and amoral idea! NO-one, not even the USA does that, ;-)! ;-)!
I like capitalism and democracy as balancers of each other. ;-)! twinned values!
And that voting is a duty, as well as a right!
Anyone else have some favourite pairs?

however I’m not into politics so you just have to bear with me on another topic. I want you to know a little bit of what my group does and what kind of service we provide to our company. My group comprises of highly trained accomplished engineering professionals that relies heavily on the new technologies to get the job done. We utilized these technologies to aid us to mitigate, investigate, monitor, and maintain our company’s facility asset integrity. Case in point, I supposed it is safe to say that everybody is aware that oil & gas industry is notoriously destructive to its working environment when building infrastructure and or extracting oil and gas from the ground. Our company relies on our group’s technology and expertise to mitigate and minimized the affect of its environment by providing our geologist and facility engineers with multi spectral and panchromatic satellite images at .5m (1 ½ ft. there about) pixel resolution of the proposed area at the earliest part of the project’s scoping. Arm with this kind of high resolution information they are able to see the whole picture clearly without any doubts of what kind of problem they’ll be running into and what sort of strategy they would have to implement during the project to lessen its impact on the environment.
With that, my group is very dynamic, off the wall and always pushing the envelope to its limit of bursting regarding the technology that we utilized however, we do have a symbiotic synergy with IT resource as we need them to build and support our group’s infrastructure. I hired consultants for special skills that is required to build the infrastructure of my vision in which were based entirely on the business need. I also hired FTE to maintain the infrastructure after the consultants leave. The overall landscape of the employee turnover in our company as a whole isn’t as bad as some have predicted. Anyway, my main concern right now is how I can keep my direct reports motivated, interested and satisfied.

"Oor Willie" to most Scots was/is a cartoon character from the Dundee press. He belongs to another era.
Most Scots aren't particularly keen on the Monarchy (some claim to be, but it's mostly an anachronistic religious thing involving Ireland/Scotland/Celtic/Rangers)
I'd show them the door personally if I ever got the chance.....
and was often pilloried by the English press!
Willie someone?

For Scots, I suggest that your description of HMQEII is innaccurate, as QEI was not monarch of Scotland...
I recall an amusing and punctiliously correct toast from a Scot who was both a monarchist and proud of his country's heritage...
As he raised his glass he declared, "To Queen Elizabeth... Second To None!!"... :o)

As regard Liz's accent, I think it fair to suggest that there is little in her current vocal delivery in common with the stiff and stilted version of "Oxford English" that characterised much of the speech from the monarchy (and media such as the BBC) in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s...
Ruth is still woefully lacking in energy, but the lack of nausea following the end of the 7-month chemotherapy is much appreciated by us both... We both now stand at least some chance of occasionally getting an unbroken night's sleep... :o)
I hope that all goes well down in your neck of the woods...

that the earlier correspondent was John the Scot, rather than the quoted "Earse", perhaps you meant "Erse"?... :o)
Re rerudition, whilst we may not all possess as much innate wisdom (sound "judgement" and "perspective") as could be desired, the least all of us should do is to ensure that we are as well-informed as is practicable, on the widest variety of subjects possible, as greater knowledge may at least help to maximise whatever natural wisdom may exist... :o)
I suggest that since the fates have given us intelligence, the least we should do is to make sure that we use it, hopefully to benefit both ourselves and others... :o)

Irrespective of one's function in life, each of us are defined as individuals by the priorities and values we adopt as the framework by which we live our lives...
