A little knowledge is a very dangerous thing. I purchased some Cunningham CX340 DHT triodes based on their high mu of 30 figuring that if they were transformer output loaded (B7 hopefully), it would divide that mu by 3-5 giving a nice DHT active level output. Of course, I didn't realize how extreme the rest of the tube parameters were: the plate resistance is a whopping 150K ohms and the transconductance is a paltry 200 mhos. It is in the family of 5V, 200 mA heaters (00A, 01A, 112A, 171A, 300A) but runs on a very low current (135V, 200mA suggested). The tube is supposed to be popular in Japan and the type 40 is not hard to find so a bunch were made (for radio), but designs seem very hard to find. So I would be happy to try any reasonable build with them that someone wants to suggest (with MQ iron) for a linestage. Thanks in advance,
Mark
Mark,
Instead of picking tubes and then looking for some iron, I recommend attacking the problem from the other direction. Pick some OTs you like (tl-404 = awesome) and then experiment with the multitude of tubes that operate within the iron's parameters.

Uh, dude, either start again from scratch or subscribe to MJ right now....
