Mike,
I am in Cinci. yet not for good but almost done with my move. so what? well, I need to play some music so I need to build my gear. as I wrote time ago I'd like to play with penthodes and the compact amps.
EL84's? any OPT good for those puppies. or what else in the cheap range can you throw at this lil guy from Italy? I'll swallow it.
hey guys if you have suggestions on some exotic and cheap penthodes I can look at just reply here... I never used them. low voltages, low bucks, great fun.

OH! yes ... I gave a deposit for a XB12 by buell, I just need to get the driving license (ok I should pay it too) and I'll have my ride. any plan to go somewhere with yours?
OH! any forecast for those beesevens?
Hi GL:
Welcome to the states. You'll have to shoot me a phone number once your settled in a bit.
re: the beesevens. Done. On shelf with your name just waiting for a shipping address.
re: XB12... is this the Ulyssess model (the adventure type)? I still get the hots for a buell. Torquey like you won't believe.
One ride I would like to make this summer is to the AMA Motorcycle vintage days... which is held at mid-america racetrack facility in Ohio. I think it is in July. Maybee we could meet there!!! And maybe we could get the good Dr. from Erie to join us on one of his ducks.
re: outputs for EL-84--- your in luck or good steed here... we have several really great designs for the EL-84 PP applications including the Acrosound TO-250 design.
Personally--- I'd stick with the classic audio pentodes/tetrodes like the EL-84, EL-34, KT-88, 6L6, 6V6, etc. If you stick with these tube types--- you have the advantage of both getting current production as well as wide range of vintage units. And I would throw in the 807 as another good candidate. Personally with these great opportunities I wouldn't bother with the "oddball" TV types, compactron equivalents, and etc.
I'd mabye look at using a pentode front end---perhaps as a LTP and maybe with the pentode UL connected from a plate choke sitting on top of the anode. this has been shown on this forum before in schematic form. If you tied the tails down pretty solidly--- you could probably use a ct AF choke with UL taps in it. The EF-86 and WE 310 come to mind as two of my early choices to look at.
Another tempting path---quite different than above--- would be to go with the compact PP circuit idea. As was just recently discussed in a post below.
cool that your coming to the states--- don't worry about getting bored--- I could keep you busy building different circuit ideas\variants for quite some time.
cheers,
MSL

B7: I'd say you can ship to OH but I am leaving in a few days and be back mid May ... so let's wait a bit. I'll drop a mail when I am ready.
XB12STT: here is a direct link ... sorta motard, it looks like the Uly a bit. I'll buy a black tank/airbox btw, now it's yellow. I need my social number to get my license and plate and eventually finalize the deal and ride the bike. Definitively! We do need to meet at the AMA! There should be enough room in the place I am going to move in so feel free to come and stay. I'll send my cell and address when back from Italy.
Penthodes: I love the compact design. I am thinking to a CCS loaded triode cap coupled to the LTP at the output. I want something really small, that's why I am looking at the EL84. UL at the output would be welcome. I'll look at the old ACRO designs for inspiration. Those UL chokes ... they would call for a direct coupled design.
Ciao

you got my attention with the above...
I can't picture what you have in mind... can you draw out the concept\schema?
I looked at the XB12STT.... it's bitchin'. And a bargain at the list price of 10.3K dollars. I'll get the info on the AMA vintage days rally and shoot it to you. I'm psyched to do some road trips this summer.

Hi Gluca
The 6T10 is an interesting tube. Dissimilar dual pentode. A driver
pentode and a beam pentode in one compactron tube.
Pete Millett designed a little amp around this tube (audioxpress 05/08)
I am in the proccess of building it. I listened to one channel in
breadbord form and thought it sounded very nice.
He used a very interesting trick of plate to grid feedback on the beam
section to give the tube very triode like curves, but yet the tube is
still running in pentode mode!!
One drawback, only 3.5W output in SE, P-P should get you up around 6W though.
Oh, by the way you can buy them for about $2 each :)
