Here's a pic of La Pomme de Terre de Gourmet, VSAC 2008 amp from Paul Birkeland and Paul Joppa's amp building class.
I took out the air gapped Edcor's and put in some nickel pinstriped Robin Hood's and was barely able to squeeze in some BCP-15 plate chokes.
Made a few other mods like putting in a PEC pot and some fancy binding posts.
Moved the input jacks from the front panel to the back.
Decided to go with the brass motif of the Robin Hoods and added the brass volume knob, tube dampers, ground post and feet.
I couldn't figure out what to do with the old RCA jack holes and then it came to me - install a set of brass nipples!
Anyway it really sounds much fuller now, a lot more weight. The bass is really good and detailed. I have close to 50-75 hours on her now. It is a really smooth, great sounding amp with the 6fy7's.
Thanks to Mike and Paul B for the help in converting to parafeed.
Paul B, my humble apologies if I have disgraced your artistic vision with these mods...

Hi. A lot of neat little touches--- and this has to be one of the most fun amps-- I really get the sense you have enjoyed the experience---
The brass themes--- your after my heart :=) Every amp needs spikes and bullets... very cool vision on your part.
I'd love to see this same vision executed on a larger platform--- you were running a wee bit out of space, heh?
but neat... and that you got some help from Paul B (who is an audio prince)... all the makings for the best of DIY.
cheers and congrats,
MSL

Thanx, Mike, you are right this is a fun little amp and i have learned a lot from a lot of great people. Space is tight for the iron, no doubt but the parts count is relatively small and it makes it quite easy for me to haul it around. Right now i've been listening to it at work most days - it really does sound good. People don't appreciate the quality of the bass. You hear the details of the drum being struck, not just a thump. It blows me away everyday and it gets better every day too - i haven't hit 100 hours yet on the robin hoods. I saw in the archives i missed out on the bell ended robin hoods - they would have been a bit more safe and better looking. I have heat shrunk the contacts now thought too, like Paul had.
What are the white film caps you have in there?
I bought those at VSAC2008 so i thought it was appropriate to put them in the amp. They are ModWright 0.1 teflon coupling caps - 400vDC. Sound pretty good to me.
Wow - I think you're hell and gone from the Gourmet Spud, though - might have to call it FrankenTater or something...
PB's little spuds obviously have a lot of potential. I loaned mine to a friend to use as a practice amp with his electric guitar, and oddly, he keeps 'forgetting' to bring it back...lol. I'd like to give it the 'Frankentater' treatment, if I ever get it back...
