gluca, yes, I got the idea of direct-coupled PP from Gary Pimm's PP47. I also used one of his current sinks in the output cathode, which sounded really, really nice, until I shorted it, somehow. I think I will try rotating the OPT 90 degrees, since I do have the room to try that, and take the opportunity to install the 1/4" mounting hardware that I used on the PSU choke, and put some flat rubber washers in there.
I will put DC heaters on the input tube eventually, but figure this noise is probably coming from some magnetic interaction, like the one you ran into.
is this yours also?

... his name is just like mine.Monkeys ... I was considering that topology for a 801A amp ... it happens I have OPT+tubes+PSU ready and running. Not now ... still working this 813 parafeed out.
gluca, sorry for the confusion; and its comforting to know now that its not just one person doing all that work. Is the 813 is a 10W amp, more or less?.. --keto

... a great tube I'd say. Sturdy and strong (I drove it up to 400mA!). Now nicely driven by a 801+807 SRPP (choke loaded) + 1:2 EXO173. Waiting for the special edition irons from Mike MQ.
