saw blue smoke and enjoyed a relatively pleasant scent. not sure what error i made changing 3.3uf capacitor between pin 7 and the EXO 173, C2 on SETH. the beeswax capacitor looks unharmed. If i inadvertently rolled solder down the EXO 173 terminal, Could that cause the trans to smoke? I did hear a pop just prior to the smoke.
any ideas?
thanx

Hi,Did you say Beeswax...? I used those and they may sound nice but they are way too unreliable. I ordered a pair and one of the caps was a dead short straight out of the mail. I got a replacement and the caps were put in my amp and they worked for about 2 weeks before one of the caps went bad and shorted.
Sorry to say but you have probably burned out your EXO 173. Measure resistance of both EXO 173 and see how they compare....
Try using Mundolf Silver and oil. They sound better to my ears and I've had no probelms nor heard of any. Can't say the same for Jupiters.
Cheers,
Rodney, Sorry to hear about your problem.Rodney and Anthony, What other caps are you usig in your SETHs?
I first had Solen caps, then switched to Mundorf for past several months. just thought I'd try the Jupiters...I'll put the Mundorfs back in...hopefully this amp will come back up...seems like the EXO 173 is ok
Thanks Anthony, I'll check the EXO 173. I had Mundorfs in the amp, just decided to try the Jupiter...oops
