Hello Forum! This is my first post/question and I intend on returning frequently.
I've a Fender Champ clone that I've built and I "nearly" love. It's the late 50's 5e1 circuit with filter choke, single-ended, probably 5-6 watts. I'm using GE metal case 6v6's for a little different tone. It pushes an 8ohm load: a 10" Weber speaker.
Anyways, my question is about applying a Magnequest output tranny. I already am using a Mercury Magnetics power tranny that I already had. I love my Magnequest transformers in my Bottlehead gear (preamp and two monoblock 2A3 amps). I'd like to apply one in my Fender Champ build.
Currently, I have a Hammond 125C in there--6800k primary, 8ohm secondary. There must be better options. Any ideas?
Thanks, in advance.

I have a pair of 7K Magnequests. These were designed around the 807 tube, they are fairly large and weigh about 16 lbs. each. Mounting centers are 3.5 and 4.5 inches.
These are NOS-- never used.
You can call me at 1-406-222-9229, and I'll give you a good deal on them, as I'm not using these.
They'll be great performers.

To use a 5K transformer and still get the same distortion (tone?) character, you really should increase the cathode current and decrease the plate voltage to adapt the tube to the transformer. There are examples in the 6V6 data sheet, but Fender's design does not quite match any of them.
Doing this will increase the current demand on the power supply, which could be a problem depending on power transformer and rectifier.
Many people do use 5k output transformers in champ clones. Mike sells several that will work.

Hello Will:
Thanks for the inquiry. I don't have a 7K single ended output. You might want to check out the Robin Hood RH-60 output. It has a 5K primary and can handle 60 mils of plate current.

Thanks! I'll check into that.
