ok. Been wondering because i've had more inquiries in the last week or so than in the last six months for the TFA-204.A neat trans... designed in 1945 by Ercel B. Harrison (Peerless's chief engineer) as a field replacement output transformer for the WE 91A (and Altec 91) amplifier.
The TFA-204 was amongst the first coils I wound while I was under the tutelage of Paul Kleinschmidt--- who was the chief winder at Acrosound and also worked for Technitrol (the company who wound Dynaco's xfmrs).
The original design was morphed into the TFA-2004 parafeed version in the mid to late nineties. The full size 2004 coil is identical to the 204--- difference being that the 2004 does not have an airgap to carry any unbalanced plate current.
And, then later, we introduced a slimmed down (less stack) version of the 2004 optimized for use with the 2A3 tube. These were wound mostly on a bobbin with all teflon insulation and supplied in channel frames. There was as I recall one group of 2004 Juniors that were layer wound, wax impregnated, and supplied with teflon color coded flying leads in bell end caps.
The TFA 204/2004 has been one of our defining products and a mainstay for all of our 25 years of building audio transformers.
