I'd like to install these in my new direct coupled 2A3 amp on input tube. I didn't decide yet which tube (will listen to 12AX7, 6N2P, 6N6P, 2C51). What do you think about the usage in this position? Preamplifier is an autotransformer volume control (huge nanocrystalline double c-core).

Fvale,
In my experience this is a bad place for these. Since they are not shielded and even when I have they pick up way too much noise which when amplified over many stages ends up in big time noise on the output.
If you put them on the output tube the SN ratio is much better and therefore the noise picked up by the grid choke is much less than the signal entering the output tube. So there it's not a problem, but I still put it as far away from the power transformer as possible.
Thanks
Gordon
