Hi Carter!
I will use NOS Ei 6FQ7 instead of 6SN7 or 6J5 as this is my favorite tube. Since this is a DIY project, so no big deal for tube socket issue :-)
Is your choice on transformer remain the same ? But which one? 10 or 18ma of 1660AM? BTW, what is the primary impedance of LL1660?
Thanks!
PS. Any chances Lundahl will produce silver version of this type?
Follow Ups:
The choice is the same for the 6FQ7. I would use the LL1660AM/10mA. There is a silver wire version; they are available by special order and are $2300 each.

Hi!
What is the primary impedance of LL1660 in this case?
Thanks!
With a 600 ohm load it is 10K.

If you're going to invest in a LL1660/10mA, which is a very nice idea, then you'd get a better line stage with the 26 in filament bias. The thread on DIY Audio "26 pre amp" will tell you absolutely everything about building a 26 line stage. It's a very long thread, but it's essential reading. There have now been a number of completed projects you can look at, and there are a number of schematics. The 26 is a stunning line stage in filament bias, to the point where it's hard to think of anything better.
There is, however, invariably something better...

Hi!
I agree with Kevin, I'd never claim that anything is the best even if it is the best I ever heard.
Although I coined the term filament bias and use it a lot too, Regular cathode bias with ultrapath can sound as good.
I prefer the 10Y in ultrapath over the 26 in filament bias. I compared both in the same preamp which is configurable.
In order to perform at it's best the ultrapath cap needs to be of good quality. I'd avoid electrolytics there
Best regards
Thomas

I'm not telling! Seriously, there is no best, but just what you regard at the moment as the best that you have heard, and that means invariably there is something that sounds better.
