Without voltages and currents for the driver stage it's pretty difficult to predict what will work in this circuit as it is drawn. As I read it, the IT primary is the cathode load resistor from a DC standpoint and, therefore, the primary resistance is important in setting the operating point of the driver stage. Without knowing the currents and voltages, it's impossible to do anything but guess what the resistance should be.
