Regarding building an amplifier (without an old Stereo 70 to modify), is the Lundahl LL1663 a better option than a replica Dynaco 470 output transformer?

Anthony
From a sonic standpoint I can't say which is preferable, because I haven't tried an LL1663/PP or an LL1682/PP on mine. I would opt for the latter, because I have 4 ohm speakers.
It is fair to say that the A470 is a very good output transformer.

Thanks for the replies, appreciated. The other transformer I was looking at was the Peerless S-240-A built by Magnequest. Although more expensive than the Lundahl or Dynaco it does have its sonic admirers.

Hi Anthony,
I've just built a K&K ST-70 using a new SS Chassis and Power transformer and used a pair of LL1663's.
It's easy to mount the 1663's, you just need to drill 4 new holes on each side of the chassis.
I have mine wired up in Ultra-Linear and am using new GL KT77's.
Sound is great with the LL1663's! Good top and bottom extension and clean and detailed sounding.
Unfortunately I can't comment on the Dynaco A470's as I don't have a pair to compare :(
You could also look at the LL1663AM outputs!
Good luck with your build, Russell
