Is it possible to place a volume control based on your shunt attentuator kit and on the output of the input/phase splitter transformer for your ST-70 kit? If so, what value should the attentuator be? Trying to avoid having a line preamp, with a system based on a CD player, power amp and speakers only. Hope you can help.
Regards
Anthony
So it is. That's what the volume control option is about. The K&K Audio attenuator kit would be even better than an Alps pot, but realistically means that you need to have speakers with 90+dB sensitivty to have enough gain to drive them to loud levels. The surface mount resistor based attenuator you can see on the link at the bottom of the page just fits.

What are the dimensions of the SMD attenuator?
Thanks
The dimensions are 1.3" x 1.3" with 1.25" extension behind the mounting plate.
