I think your best bet is to ask the people at Great Plains Audio
(call don't email). They should know some of that stuff. IMO, the cast return pot is superior to the welded pipe/end cap design. There are some specs listed on the "Altec Lansing unofficial" web site.
The 8C and 8E models specs.the same electro-acoustically, frame/
magnet style may differ.

One particular area of difference that I have found between the 414A and 414C (aside from the magnet return pot construction) is the magnet strength. The 414A is listed as 10,000 gauss while the 414C is listed at 9,000 gauss. This may account for the stated 3 dB difference in efficiency between the two. I'm not sure if it would affect the extension on the top end.
Hi,The current GPA versions measure around ~94dB.. While the earlier 414A/Z have been measured to have a higher sensitivity.. It's ~98dB based on independent measurements from Bill Woods, a guy from England, and another one from Eastern Europe. I don't have the links to the latter, sorry. I can't remember where I saw them.

The GPA 414B looks identical to the 414C, but has a lower Fs (25 vs. 30hz), which may imply a slightly heavier cone and consequently lower efficiency.
