the focal point of most full range drives is the mid range. How does the bass sound with these speakers in your Karlson's? My suspicion would be that you may need a better suited woofer, you have the mid and top end covered should make for a fine project and an equally fine loudspeaker.Keep us up to date on your progress. Freddy can suggest woofers if you think you need one and maybe you can trade your Philips full range 12 for a more suitable woofer to keep costs down. Regards moray james.

Yeah needing better woofers is a possibility, and one could argue that those Philips full range are good enough to be used in open back situation and shouldnt be used as woofers;
but this is stage one, where I don't wanna spend any money
later, I can try to find some more suitable woofers.
Interestingly, average sensitivity of those Philips is about the same as the Klipsch K22, that's why I thought of the Heresy network.
understand the budget issue the Philips may be fine that was just a guess o my part. Have you actually tried them in the Karlson cabinet yet and if so how do they sound?

I "kinda" listened to them whn I bought them, then I had to store them away in a garage far from home (I can't possibly take them home, they are too big, I would face serious relationship problems, my main speakers - heavily modded Klipsch LaScala- are huge and I'm already glad they are welcome in the living room)
I will go there when I have all the parts I need and work on them
what I can remember is that the bass seemed really OK, even tho amplifier and source were far from optimal.
But then, those philips fullrangers are good and have good resale value, so it seems a bit a waste to use them as woofers only - if it all sounds promising, I'll get a pair of proper woofers and take the Philips out.
are you running them in K12 or K15? K15 is small but(admittedly not a lot smaller) than a LaScasla and if it works well why not. A used set of K33 might work in a K15? Freddy would know better that I would. Best of luck with this.
My experience with Karlson has been very positive they don't go really low but they have a special quality about them with very impressive dynamics. You might like them better than your LaScala. Have you considered fitting your mid drivers with K-Tubes rather than horns? I like the double cutaway K-Tube better than any of the horns that I have tried especially for near field listening, on top of that they are so small (and cheap and easy to make) and they are so easy to time align. With K-Tubes you never have a issue with the drive to K-Tube interface the match is perfect every time unlike with horns where then almost never match properly (driver exit angle and horn entrance angle).

Apparently, according to the karlson webpage, my Philips drivers are amongst the "recommended drivers for karlson enclosures" :)
