Give Great Plains Audio a call.... they'll help you out!

I was thinking of something affordable, even used 416 are what I would consider excessively expensive. What I was thinking of was something that was close in terms of Thiel Small parameters that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
Try checking ebay, craigslist, your local thrift stores, yardsales, etc, to get it "cheap" you are going to have to hunt/look far and wide.
And lets say you find one, you'll probably have to send it in to Bill @ GPA to get it recone/remagged, etc.... so you come out to spending the same, especially after shipping, that you would have paying new possibly.
Good luck in your search
I doubt it. There's more to how a driver sounds than just
parameters. Such as cone pulp, dustcap, coil, bobbin material,
etc...just have to get the real deal.
There are the unmeasurable intangibles but if I found a speaker whose TS parameters match the 416 closely is it not reasonable to suppose that it would sound at least very similar?
As already noted, XO point/slope plays a big part in the woofer's/speaker's 'tone' to the point where even a 500 Hz/2nd order XO is high enough for folks to hear the difference between a 416's and 515's HF response.
Since these are prosound mid-bass horn drivers, I doubt you're going to find any inexpensive ~clones, at least I've never run across any in my decades of casual search beyond getting lucky occasionally scoring originals at various local sales before the 'net/ebay made folks aware of their collectability.

Loud is Beautiful if it's Clean! As always though, the usual disclaimers apply to this post's contents.
I have a pair of 420A frames in good condition if you wanna have GPA recone them, remag them. I run 515Bs in my A7 VOTTs, and do not think I need to change model numbers or even hold onto these frames. Can send photos if you are interested, and pack and ship them direct to GPA for you.Jeff Medwin

Thanks for the very kind offer Jeff but I will do some more research before taking you up on it.
I got a pair of 421 baskets and bought a pair of 416 cones. The re-coning job is not difficult. Lots cheaper than some other options. Sounds pretty good.
Years ago I had my 420's recone-ed with 416 cones, a little Duct Tape on the back side of the Ceramic magnet .......and you got your 416.
They're mounted in my Valencia cabinets and sound great.

Most likely in the bass response...the lower your crossover
frequency the better the outcome. 416 is pretty good up to 1200 Hz,
might be hard to beat with a knock-off.
