In Reply to: RE: will a DE250/clone or BMS4550 safely run on a 511 @500-800 with 2nd order passive crossover? posted by freddyi on January 14, 2016 at 21:32:10
Yes, i used a 4550 rebuilding an A-7 about 12 years ago and the result was you get about an octave more hf and greater sensitivity. Also, by moving the 511 back about 2 inches and using an purpose built crossover, one could get flat response and a Synergy horn like response (little or no crossover phase shift). At home levels a 2nd order should be fine.
I have pictures, schematic and measurements somewhere as i was going to try to write a "how to" something.

that's way cool to get that level of coherence - wonder how low a really cheap DE250 clone such as Dayton can be pushed on a 511? - I might try one at low power and look for distortion - hopefully it'll distort before bottoming
I've got a Frazer CAT40 which sounds like its alignment is good but never can see a square wave

Lowest xover point is 1Kz. They like 1.2Kz, sounds better.
thanks Cougar - so even with a long, relatively slow horn as a 511, they aren't happy below 1K - - I have some D250P - probably use one first on a K-tube which provides no gain - hope it can handle 1K6 xover in that state. What waveguides and highpass have you used with D250P?

the QSC horn from Parts Express. I had it Xover over at 1.2Khz and 1.5kkz. Worked well at both xover points.I currently getting ready to use them in a 2 way system with the QSC and the MCM 55-2963's. Those woofers are supposed to be close copies of the JBL 2226's Everyone raves about their upper mid bass production.

thanks - I've got that QSC - are you going with an Econowave xover for the new project? great looking cone on those MCM ! - wonder what qts. fs and vas they exhibit?
