Thank you for the answer. That is exactly my concern. Will the SET amps be enough to make them sing? Best is to try different amps as much as possible, i guess..

You really should do that. If it works, it works. You do not want to end up with a boring sound or mushy bass. When I used to live in Hong Kong, I heard a lot of Tannoys, from the old classics to the contemporary professional models. I also had both 3LZ with Red drivers and later Stirling TW's. I like both SET and later push-pull tube amps, and use both with other speakers. If I could not listen first, I would probably start with push-pull KT88's for Tannoys. David
Yes i will do that. First, i'll start with MC 275 and then try the British combo with Quad II's. Later, the SETs; there's a close by Hi-Fi store with Air Tight ATM 300 and Sun Audio 2A3. They're not the mono setup i desire, but a good comparison and start.
I used the monitor golds with 275 and quads, i liked the quads more. But the lamps on 275 were not good which made the comparison not fare.
I have Canterbury SE's that like their power but are very revealing. Not
as good as your Autographs, but good. I had been using Prima Luna Prologue 5
with KT88's or 6550's, good power but lacking a little detail and clarity.
I also have a Decware Zen Torii MKIII that is designed with el34's, excellent clarity but little weak in power. Owner Steve Deckert recommended
that I use KT66's and that is doing the trick. You may wish to look at Decware.com andemail Steve to get his recommendation. Good luck!
Doug
Doug, thank you very much for the recommendations. I will check Decware. My Quads are also doing good, as you say KT66's are working very well with Tannoys. Actually i'm very curious to try the Leak 12.1's but with the prices on the market it's hard to take the risk. Most of them need a complete overhaul.
