Lately I've been listening to my 8" German Field Coil speakers. I bought these refurbished
off Ebay, A couple years ago. I love the speed of field coils , they seem to add a delicacy to all
the music.
Sometime ago I purchased a pair of University P.A. horns with drivers . I ended up using the
Drivers , which had phenolic diaphragms , as Super tweeter for my Altec A-5 system. Later I sold them on ebay , The Metal Horn part I mounted in a MDF box and fill around the horn with expanding foam .
I then added a back mounting board, to mount my 8" field coil speaker.
The end product has turned out to be a nice Field Coil Horn speaker that has excellent mid to high Range ,that has great horn driven response. But not a lot of bottom end.
So my solution was to go to a simple Bi-amp solution... So I drive the 8" Field Coil Horns with my
26-26 DC45 Stereo amp, and I add a little Low end with my 26 Preamp driving a 6SN7 DC 2A3 IT 845 stereo amp driving my GPA 604's in MLTL speakers.
With the Horn loaded Field Coils mounted on top of the MLTL cabinets they seem to integrate quite well together. I love the dynamics the Horn system seems to bring out in the music.
This is by no means a perfect system , it still has a localized Sweet Spot…… but the horns does help
spread that spot a bit …. But the major benefit would be the dynamics !!!!
Have fun!

Very nice system indeed!! Bet it sounds fantastic
If I may ask ...did you fabricate those copper colored tube shields?
Cheers
Frank M
No the tube Shields are part of the 4 pin sockets I recovered from an old Tube Radio !...
When I first built the preamp I tried many different methods to prevent hum.. I guess after tweaking it I found they didn't add much except Looks !
Have fun !

That is a wild ass system Willie, I love it!
Still sourcing parts for my 26 preamp and 26/26/45 amp, but will start pretty soon now that I have sold my old amp and finished few major projects around the old homestead. I am hoping to have a fun winter.

Yeah vinnie, ..... I have so much fun playing with this stuff.
After tweaking my amp and speaker Xovers, it's a lot of fun going
back and revisiting some of my past projects..
I never seem to run out of stuff to try. Not all turn out as
pleasurable as this did !
Have Fun!
