I've got this friend of mine that has to give up his Bass Bins due to moving into a smaller place. He has Oris Horns. He wants great Deep Bass, but in a very compact size. The good news is that He Bi-amps and has plenty of power for the Bass Modules.
What is available to fill this bill?Cut-Throat

... go subterranean.
Define "great deep bass". And define "small".If you mean 25 Hz at 110 dB, that's one thing. But if you mean 35 Hz at 100 dB, that's quite another.
The laws of physics haven't changed much over the years. It's still about moving air, which, in a nutshell, means large diaphragm/small excursion or small diaphragm/large excursion. Take your pick.

Freddyi said it first, but it's buried in the thread. The 6th order Butterworth ported alignment, with its associated eq filter is probably the most space-efficient conventional design, and to get good behavior to 200Hz calls for a fairly conventional setup if you use a box.
An open baffle is another possibility; it can have a small volume but needs a large frontal area.
Kind of depends on the real-world constraints, i.e. what we used to call the wife-acceptance factor.
I was under the impression that it was completely impossible for an open baffle of *any* size to have *any* bass whatsoever. ;)
Could put a few 12 inch woofers in a ported box. Still horn loaded mid bass- bass is far superior to ported or sealed designs with increased amplification. The Oris horn itself takes up floor space why not reuse its sqft and but a BD bin design or other of proper size?
Josh Ricci has tested dozens of subwoofers from small to large, inexpensive to very expensive, one of them probably would fit your friend's desires:

I have a Subwoofer and its Frequency response is 20 HZ to 120 Hz... my friends Horns go down to 200 Hz. ....It seems like the page you linked to are 'Sub Bass' only systems.... He needs the Mid Bass too.

How small does he want? The Oris is what, 30" in diameter?
How about a 2' cube flat to 27hz, 100dB/2.83V 1M, would that be small enough?

yes - is it a B6 ? - how high can it work? MMJ has a 5.06CF external bulk "Karlflex" which needs 15tbx40 type specs but it only extends to around 40

Of course its a B6, useable to 300hz or so.
PE 295-120.
Quad version is same efficiency, but 8Ω.
(cat not included)
Nice build ! (nice cat too) - is there a plan for the 2-12 version?

Fred,
Pictured on your post is a 2x15, as you know, from Les Hudson.
Les was inspired by Dennis (djk)
I was inspired by Les.
Mine are 2x12
A ppsl is probably the most suitable (compact?) design to be placed under an ORIS type horn that covers down to the 200Hz-250Hz area.
I know you are not the OP; I just decided to respond here.
I'm still drawing up the 27hz version, I have the 40hz 4th order version (for PA) done.

Hi Cut-Throat, that was a short cut for 2 cubic feet...:)
Didnt you say 2' cube which is a cube with sides of 2 feet or 8 cu ft. A 2cu ft cube will have sides of 1.26 ft.
Bill
Yes, I see that. Original Post said a 2" Cube, now Changed to read 2' Cube.

Quad version, 45" tall. Dual version would be 24" tall.
