Hi freddyi!
My friend is interested in perhaps building a Karlson enclosure and from my experience reading your past posts here in the High Efficiency Asylum, I believe you are the Karlson guru here! Could you give me your reasons for choosing to use Karlson enclosures and what you believe their strengths & weaknesses are versus other types of enclosures? I want to say TIA as I deeply appreciate your time and any and all info you can provide for me to give my friend about the Karlson enclosures!

Freddyi, Pix, Wojciech and Steve Schell I want to thank you all for the valuable input you provided for my friend Mike! Steve as one of the owners of Cogent and the incredible speakers you guys make; when you said," I'll add that I do not think that one can do better in a similar sized enclosure than the Karlson. that pretty much sealed the deal for Mike, or so I believe at least!
Thanks again to all who responded...

I made these K15 some month ago and are very happy with the result.
I would say the fast midbass resonse is their trength.
I use Bayma 15P80Fe/80W ss-amp and a Radian 750P on a Tracs-trix 200Hz horn on top (X over = 420Hz)
strengths = punch, dispersion - a good substitute for front loaded midbass/bass horns if adequate power is available.a K-tube tweeter is a good match for most regular K-couplers
2/3 scale K15
same cabinet with Beta10cx
two tone sidebands of reflex vs K15 with 40sq.in. vent

I'm playing with a pair of K15. I don't like it with tubes but it's really nice with 120W mosfet amp. The driver is altec 803A 40-60hz Fs hard suspension. I put 340hz edgarhorn + EV T350 on the top of this temporary setup. If I were serious about Karlson installation and my main music was Jazz and toward pop/ rock I'd just source less fragile /nuanced driver than altec. A driver of low Q and ~35-40 Hz fs and use the enclosures as bass bins up to 200-250H and horns from there, although for a 2 weeks I just play them as is crossed at 500hz mainly out of longing for horn sound ..
Whatever they say 350hz (340) Edgar horn + Jbl 2440/41 is an excellent combo of reference quality and I'm glad I kept it for all those years.
While waiting for Freddyi's reply... I'll add that I do not think that one can do better in a similar sized enclosure than the Karlson. I set up a relative with a pair of these years ago and I am surprised at their performance every time I hear them. He's using JBL D-130s at present, though other 1950s high performance PM woofers like Stephens, Jensen, etc. would work fine also. Best of all would be 1940s field coil woofers like RCA, Stephens, Jensen, etc.
