This guy had three complete horns from a cinema, now just the one (with no drivers).It was designed by Eugene T. Patronis (Georgia Tech)and was patented, United States Patent, 5,125,732 (June 30, 1992).

The midbass horn is about 48" wide, the HF is the EV HP940 w/DH1A.

the spring of 1897. There was a woodshop on the 1st floor of the Physic's Building. We cut slots on the outside curved flares of the horn to made it pliable and filled the backside with Bondo.
After we graduated in Sept 1987, Dr. P bought us two round trip tickets from ATL to LAX. We drove past the movie theatre (where it was to be auditioned), but never went inside.
Dr. Eugene Patronis was and still is like a father to me. A great, great Professor, and even a better person
Impressive. Even without the typo! ;-)
Mention of Dr Patronis brings back some good memories. He was my electronics professor at Georgia Tech and easily my favorite prof. The guy was a walking encyclopedia concerning electronics and audio. I worked on a special project with him (and several other students) to construct amplifiers and speakers for cinema use in the Ga Tech Coliseum about 1970/71. Those were the most fun credits I ever earned in college!
The speakers produced by that project did not resemble the ones in the auction, however. The bass cabs had four big speakers in a vertical array, 18's I think, but could have been 15's. Two multicell arrays on top of that for mid and treble.
If your still in the Atlanta area, doc Patronis is a friend of our company and will be speaking at the Synaudcon seminar in Atlanta this week;

I appreciate you telling me about it, Tom. I'm only 2 hours away, but still it looks a little pricey for an old non-pro tinkerer like me!

It would have been amazing to go to Georia Tech and take classes from Leach and Patronis.
I had chance to talk with Leach a couple of times, but not Patronis.
I did not know Leach. He was there the same time as I was, getting his PhD, but he was in EE and I was Physics, like Patronis, so we didn't really cross paths. I spoke with Leach on the phone several times after he published some construction projects in the mid 70's. He was always very open to that kind of conversation.
Patronis was amazing though. I loaded up on all the classes I could get from him. What a mind. He would say something complex in class and then just chew on his cigar a bit and wait for the light bulbs to come on across the class. They always did. He knew how to present complex material in an understandable way, but he made you dig some as well.
